Leather:
Circle R Chaps uses quality chap leather, Top Grain or Split (Suede), in most popular colors. We also make a few designs in vinyl.
The use of elk and deer leather is subject to availability. Elk and deer leather are never perfect clear hides, but chaps will be made with the least amount of imperfections. Chaps made of elk and deer cannot be returned because of imperfections.
Types of Chaps:
Batwing Chaps: "Batwing" refers to the wide cut with a flare at the bottom. Batwings have only two or three fasteners around the thigh, thus allowing great freedom of movement and air circulation. Batwing style chaps make great Rodeo Chaps and are often seen on rodeo riders, particularly those who ride bucking stock, because the lower leg of the chap has freedom to flap and make for a "showier" ride.
Batwing Chaps make great Rodeo Chaps, Work Chaps or Chink Chaps. Batwings have two or three buckles and straps and an adjustable back belt.
Rodeo Chaps: Rodeo chaps have two or three buckles and straps at the back of the thigh and an adjustable back belt. Rodeo Chaps are frequently of the wide flare Batwing cut but many of the newer Bull Riding Chaps have a square bottom cut. The lower leg of the chap has freedom to flap and thus makes for a "showier" ride. Custom trim options available. Made in 6 stock sizes or custom "Made to Measure."
Chink Chaps: 3/4 length chap made for the working cowboy for protection and comfort. Chinks, which are usually the same cut as the Batwing Chap, have two or three buckles and straps at the back of the thigh allowing for freedom of movement.
Work Chaps: Chaps in various styles made for the protection and comfort of the working cowboy.
Hay Chaps: Short below the knee apron for bucking hay bales. Has buckles and straps.
Horse Shoeing Chaps: Apron made of heavy split leather. Midcalf length. Reinforced thigh. Snap and ring closure. Knife pocket.
Chinks, Batwing and other style chaps can be used for work chaps. See our Work Chaps page for a complete list.
Shotgun Chaps: The legs of a Shotgun Chap are straight and narrow (like the barrel of a shotgun). Each leg is cut from a single piece of leather. Their fit is fairly snug, wrapping completely around the leg with full-length zippers running along the outside of the leg from the upper thigh to the bottom of the chap leg. The edge of each legging can be fringed and the bottom is sometimes cut with an arch or flare that allows a smooth fit over the arch of a boot. Shotguns do not flap around the way the batwing design can. Shotgun chaps make wonderful Show Chaps and are also the cut for Motorcycle Chaps and Hunting Chaps (Hunting Chaps are usually made of Cordura rather than leather).
Our leather Shotgun Chaps have brass zippers, adjustable back belt and fringe. Made in 6 stock sizes or made to measure. Other trim options available.
